YouTuber raises $15M for Brazil Cash App alternative

A Brazil-focused mobile payments app modeled on Cash App secured $15 million to build product, hire teams, obtain licenses and begin a closed beta in select cities.

A creator with a large YouTube following raised $15 million to build a mobile payments app for Brazil modeled on Cash App. The funding was announced recently and will fund product development, hires and an initial rollout in select Brazilian cities.

The round included venture capital and private investors. The founder plans to use the funds to expand engineering and operations teams, secure regulatory approvals and form partnerships with banks, card networks and payment processors.

The app will focus on person-to-person transfers, account-to-account payments and fast onboarding through a mobile-first interface. Planned features include a digital wallet, instant transfers and a physical or virtual card to let users spend funds directly from the app. According to the founder, the service is intended as a technology-first consumer product and the creator’s audience will be used to test features and drive early adoption.

Investors pointed to Brazil’s large, mobile-savvy population and rapid uptake of digital payments as reasons to back the project. Brazil introduced Pix, an instant payment system operated by the central bank, which became widely used; the new app intends to operate alongside local payment rails and follow Brazilian regulations rather than replace existing infrastructure.

The startup said part of the $15 million will cover licensing and compliance costs. Brazil requires financial services providers to meet anti-money-laundering rules, consumer protection standards and central bank oversight. The company plans to prioritize meeting those requirements before expanding service nationwide.

The product roadmap calls for a staged rollout that begins with a closed beta to gather user feedback, followed by broader release after regulatory approvals are in place. No public launch date has been given. The company will announce details on pricing, features and geographic expansion once the initial beta concludes and necessary licenses are secured.
