Virax Shares Triple After Fosun Deal for ASEAN Supply
Virax Biolabs shares more than tripled after its UK unit signed an exclusive multi-country supply agreement with Fosun Diagnostics to sell ImmuneSelect across six ASEAN countries.
Virax Biolabs’ shares rose more than threefold after the company’s UK subsidiary announced an exclusive multi-country supply agreement with Fosun Diagnostics in a July 9 press release. The deal covers Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
Under the agreement, Virax will supply its ImmuneSelect product line, which includes ELISpot assay plates used for cellular immune response profiling.
The commercial rollout will begin in Thailand, with an initial focus on tuberculosis-related research applications.
Shares moved through key technical levels on Thursday, triggering algorithmic buying, and trading volume rose to more than 57 million shares compared with a typical daily average of about 1 million.
Virax is a micro-cap biotechnology company that reported under $1 million in revenue over the past year. The stock underwent a 1-for-25 reverse split to meet Nasdaq minimum bid requirements and has a tight float. The shares remained about 10% lower year-to-date despite Thursday’s increase.
Market observers point to risks tied to the low float and sudden volume spikes, which can produce extreme price swings and algorithmic momentum traps. Rapid rallies in micro-cap securities can attract short-term traders who sell into strength. There is also the possibility of dilutive secondary share offerings if the company seeks to raise capital after the rally.
Only one Wall Street analyst currently covers Virax Biolabs, with a Buy rating and a mean price target of $25. Any sales from the Fosun agreement would need to appear on the company’s financial statements to register as revenue.
