Advisor Uziel Gomez Targets First-Gen, Early-Career Clients

Uziel Gomez opened Primeros Financial in Culver City three years ago to advise first-generation, early-career clients. The firm focuses on people zero to 10 years into their careers, including medical residents and fellows whose pay is expected to rise over time.

Gomez left a prior firm after noticing his client base did not reflect the community he grew up in. As the child of parents who emigrated from Mexico, he recalled watching family members manage finances with little guidance. “I was always aware of what our financial situation was,” he recalled, adding that many in his circle were in survival mode and did not discuss investing or saving for retirement.

At Primeros Financial, Gomez emphasizes basic financial education, habit-building and a low-pressure environment for clients new to investing. “I’m very intentional about creating a very safe space for early-career clients to ask questions and learn,” Gomez said. He sets fees to align with clients’ current incomes, often charging lower fees now with the expectation that fees will increase as clients’ earnings grow.

Gomez’s clients include medical trainees and other professionals starting their careers. Serving early-career clients involves accepting lower revenue initially while seeking longer-term advisory relationships as incomes rise, he described. He added that he finds professional satisfaction in helping clients establish a financial foundation and good habits early.

Beyond client work, Gomez has volunteered with programs aimed at increasing diversity in the financial services industry. He worked with the BLX Internship to help advisors of color secure paid internships. With his local Financial Planning Association chapter, he served as NextGen director, organizing networking events for students, career changers and early-career professionals, and he became chapter president at the start of 2026. Shanelle Sua, president-elect and director of membership, called him “consistently reliable” and noted his volunteer work and conference speaking.

Primeros Financial’s model centers on beginning financial planning earlier in clients’ careers, focusing on education, habit formation and scaling advisory fees as clients’ financial capacity increases. Gomez was named a 2026 rising star in financial planning.
