Unlimit secures Hong Kong money service licence

Unlimit obtained a money service operator licence from Hong Kong’s Commissioner of Customs and Excise, enabling local payment channels and cross-border transfers in Asia-Pacific.

Unlimit has obtained a money service operator licence from Hong Kong’s Commissioner of Customs and Excise, allowing the company to offer regulated money services in Hong Kong and to connect to local payment rails from its Hong Kong hub. The authorisation permits collections, payouts and transfers between markets across Asia-Pacific.

The licence places Unlimit under the oversight of Hong Kong’s customs and excise authority for money service operations and requires the firm to comply with anti-money‑laundering and counter‑terrorist financing rules.

Unlimit plans to add local payment channels for businesses operating across Asia-Pacific, supporting local collection, payout and cross-border movement of funds through its Hong Kong base.

Hong Kong was ranked the world’s fourth-largest foreign exchange centre in the 2025 Triennial Central Bank Survey, with average daily turnover of US$883 billion in April 2025, a 27% increase from April 2022. Unlimit said it will use Hong Kong’s liquidity and payment infrastructure to route local payment flows and facilitate cross-border transactions for corporate clients.

Michele Fung, Head of APAC at Unlimit, commented: “Asia-Pacific is not a unified payments market. Companies entering new markets face different currencies, payment systems and regulatory requirements. The Hong Kong licence will help us assist clients in managing those differences and moving money across borders as they grow.”

Money service operator licences in Hong Kong are required for firms that conduct remittance and foreign exchange services. Unlimit’s regulatory approval follows growth in regional payments demand and rising FX turnover through Hong Kong.
