Trafalgar Capital appoints Michael Rothlin as macro CIO

Michael Rothlin joins Hong Kong-based Trafalgar Capital as chief investment officer for macro trading after leading Asia-Pacific G10 linear rates and foreign-exchange trading at Natixis.

Trafalgar Capital Management has appointed Michael Rothlin as chief investment officer responsible for the firm’s macro trading strategies. The firm named Rothlin to oversee its macro trading desk and the implementation of related strategies.

Rothlin joins from Natixis, where he spent the past year leading Asia-Pacific G10 linear rates and foreign-exchange trading. He was recruited by the bank during an expansion of its regional markets operations.

Earlier in his career, Rothlin co-founded White Elk Partners in Hong Kong, a hedge fund focused on global macro and relative-value strategies. He also served as a portfolio manager at Wolver Hill Asset Management and spent more than nine years at HSBC as Asia-Pacific head of G10 foreign-exchange trading.

Trafalgar is based in Hong Kong and has recently added senior hires to support its trading operations. Rothlin’s experience in rates and foreign exchange will be aligned with the firm’s macro trading activities.

The firm and Rothlin did not provide comments with the appointment.
