Thiel’s Macro Fund Buys $76M Stake in Argentina’s Vista
Peter Thiel’s Macro hedge fund bought about $76 million of American Depositary Shares in Argentine oil producer Vista, about a 1% stake in the Vaca Muerta operator.
An SEC filing shows Thiel’s Macro fund purchased roughly 1.2 million American Depositary Shares in Vista, representing about 1% of the company’s outstanding capital and costing approximately $76 million.
The filing lists the fund’s total disclosed portfolio at about $418.7 million. Disclosed holdings include Amazon and Vistra, alongside U.S. power and energy companies such as American Electric Power, DTE Energy, FirstEnergy, CMS Energy and X-Energy.
Vista operates in Vaca Muerta, a large Argentine shale formation targeted for oil and gas development. The company is one of several producers working in the basin to develop unconventional hydrocarbon resources.
Peter Thiel met Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, at the presidential palace in April to discuss economic policy and Milei’s opposition to wealth taxes. Local reports indicate Thiel has also purchased property in an upscale Buenos Aires neighborhood.
The SEC filing does not include comments from Thiel Macro or from Vista.
