TerraPay Connects Xend Wallets to Alipay+ for QR Payments

TerraPay and Ant International linked TerraPay’s Xend wallet network to Alipay+, enabling 15 African digital wallets to make cross-border QR payments at more than 150 million merchants in Alipay+’s global network.

The integration expands TerraPay’s cross-border services beyond account-to-account transfers to include in-store acceptance via QR codes. In the initial phase, wallet holders on Xend can pay at merchants across more than 220 destination markets and through over 10 national payment systems.

Through Xend, wallet providers can allow users to scan a single QR code and complete payments with their domestic wallet app, avoiding the need to switch to local apps, cards or cash when abroad. TerraPay described the link as a single-connection path for wallet partners to access Alipay+’s merchant ecosystem and to simplify technical onboarding.

Alipay+ is a unified wallet gateway operated by Ant International. It connects over 50 international payment partners to more than 150 million merchants and supports cross-border payments and digital services for merchants and financial institutions. The tie-up gives TerraPay’s wallet partners access to that merchant footprint without separate integrations in each market.

Ambar Sur, founder and CEO of TerraPay, commented that a home wallet “should work the same way in Singapore or China or anywhere in the world, as easily as it does at home.” Edward Yue, general manager of Alipay+ Global Power Center at Ant International, added that connecting TerraPay’s wallet network to Alipay+ will “help more people and businesses connect across borders and create new pathways for growth.”

TerraPay said the initial rollout focuses on African wallets but can be extended to partners in Latin America, the Middle East and other regions. The two companies said the integration addresses common friction for travelers and cross-border shoppers whose domestic wallet apps often lack international acceptance.

TerraPay operates Xend to improve interoperability between digital wallets. Ant International operates Alipay+ and provides a unified platform for payments and digital services for financial institutions and merchants.
