SuperTech opened applications for the Open Innovation Lab: Fighting Fraud, pairing fintechs, lawtechs and AI firms with banks, law firms, regulators and academics to tackle fraud.

SuperTech has opened applications for the Open Innovation Lab: Fighting Fraud, to be held in Birmingham. The programme invites fintechs, lawtechs, regtechs, fraud-tech firms and AI companies to work with banks, law firms, regulators and academics to develop and test solutions for real-world fraud challenges.

Confirmed partners include BNP Paribas Personal Finance, Equifax UK, Tipton & Coseley Building Society, Advance Credit Union, Clockwise Credit Union, Fieldfisher, HCR Law and Aston University. The lab was developed with these organisations to focus applicants on industry-led problems. Successful teams will test products against live use cases, receive structured feedback and may move into pilot or commercial discussions.

Organisers set out specific challenge areas for the programme: authenticating documentation and reducing false positives; enhancing trusted digital journeys and strengthening fraud resilience; delivering dynamic customer outcomes for real-time protection; preserving identity integrity across distributed access channels; applying AI to detection, investigation and response; and examining risks and opportunities from agentic AI.

Applications are open now and close on Wednesday 30 September. The programme starts on 13 October and will conclude with innovators presenting their solutions and findings to participating organisations, which will provide feedback aimed at helping teams refine products and prepare for market deployment. Previous SuperTech programmes resulted in industry pilots, commercial partnerships and new market entries for participating companies.

Hilary Smyth-Allen, CEO of SuperTech, commented: “Fraud continues to evolve at pace, creating significant challenges for organisations, customers and communities. We’re bringing together innovators, industry leaders, regulators and academic experts to explore practical solutions that can strengthen resilience, reduce harm and improve outcomes for businesses and their customers.” Rachel Burton, Head of Innovation and Proposition Development at BNP Paribas Personal Finance, added: “Innovation thrives when different perspectives come together. This programme creates a unique opportunity for organisations across financial services and beyond to share insights, challenge thinking and collaborate on cutting-edge solutions that can strengthen fraud resilience across the industry.” Nigel Lang, Chief Information Officer at Fieldfisher, noted: “Fraud cuts across sectors, which is why collaboration between legal services, financial institutions, regulators, academics and innovators is important.”
