SIX: Swiss and Spanish turnover up 19.5% in August
Combined turnover on SIX Swiss Exchange and BME rose 19.5% year-on-year to CHF125.9 billion in August 2026; Swiss CHF87.3bn, Spain EUR41.2bn.
Combined trading turnover on SIX Swiss Exchange and BME Exchange increased 19.5% year-on-year to CHF125.9 billion in August 2026, compared with August 2025. The Swiss market accounted for CHF87.3 billion and the Spanish market for EUR41.2 billion.
On the Swiss exchange, exchange-traded funds were the strongest growth segment. ETF turnover rose 72.4% year-on-year in August. New ETF listings on the Swiss market were 90.0% higher year-to-date, reaching 211 listings in 2026 and bringing the total number of ETFs available to investors to 2,282. Allianz Global Investors joined the platform in August as a new ETF issuer with four products, increasing the number of ETF issuers on SIX to 37.
On BME, equities showed the largest year-on-year increase, with trading turnover up 27.1% to EUR28.6 billion in August. Fixed income trading on the Spanish exchange rose 33.2% year-on-year. ETF trading on BME exceeded EUR1.0 billion in year-to-date turnover during August, a milestone reached three months earlier than in 2025.
Index movements in August were mixed. The IBEX 35 surpassed 20,000 points for the first time on 4 August and reached a record high of 20,356.5 on 13 August; it closed the month at 19,974.0 points, up 1.0% on the month and 15.4% year-to-date. Switzerland’s SMI fell 0.4% in August to 14,286.4 points and was up 7.7% for 2026 to date.
