Shopify Stock Rises After Settlement; Technicals Point to $150

Shopify shares climbed from a March low of $94.47 to $121.63 after a settlement with Shopline. Technicals show an inverted head-and-shoulders and the stock trades above its 50- and 100-day averages.

Shopify shares recovered from a March low of $94.47 to trade around $121.63 after the company disclosed a confidential settlement with Shopline. Chart patterns show an inverted head-and-shoulders formation and the stock has moved above its 50-day and 100-day moving averages. Technical analysts cite a near-term resistance level around $150.

The settlement resolved a dispute in which Shopify had accused Shopline, a business owned by Joyy, of copying and rebranding Shopify’s Dawn theme and distributing it as its own. Shopify asked a judge to bar Shopline from distributing the software. Shopify’s chief counsel wrote that the court ordered Shopline to stop and to pay Shopify. The companies did not disclose the settlement terms; public estimates place Joyy’s payment in the low millions. Joyy has a market value above $3.3 billion and its shares rose modestly after the filing.

Shopify reported revenue of $3.17 billion for the most recent period, a 34% increase year over year. Gross profit exceeded $1.56 billion and free cash flow was $476 million. Management raised its forward guidance and now expects second-quarter revenue growth in the high-twenties percentage range. Analysts’ consensus projects roughly 28% revenue growth to about $3.4 billion for the quarter and annual revenue near $14.8 billion.

Using a rule-of-40 framework, analysts’ projections combine roughly 28% revenue growth with an estimated profit margin near 14%, generating a 42 reading on that metric. The company reported new merchant additions, including Balmain Paris, Rag & Bone, Mulberry and The Outnet.

Market participants have noted newer AI-driven tools that can create online stores quickly, including platforms such as Lovable and Cursor. Some investors and merchants are evaluating those tools as alternatives to conventional e-commerce platforms.

Trading volume ticked higher around the settlement disclosure, producing a modest uptick in Shopify shares and a small gain in Joyy stock. The legal filing and settlement were described by Shopify as a defense of its theme library and of open-source trust; no further legal or financial details were released.

Despite the recent rise, Shopify shares remain roughly 35% below their peak from last year, a gap that reflects declines across many software stocks. Technical indicators to watch include the $150 resistance area and the stock’s position relative to the 50- and 100-day moving averages.
