Rig collapse halts construction of Citadel’s Miami HQ
Work stopped after a rig collapsed at Citadel’s planned Brickell headquarters Monday; county issued a stop-work order and four people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Construction at the site of Citadel’s planned Miami headquarters in the Brickell financial district was halted after a rig collapsed on Monday, striking multiple vehicles. County officials issued a stop-work order and at least four people were transported to hospital with minor injuries, the fire department reported.
The project developer, Related Companies, confirmed it is working with city and county authorities to secure the site and assist with the investigation. Crews suspended visible construction while emergency responders and investigators inspected damaged equipment and nearby vehicles.
Officials have not released a cause for the collapse. The county’s stop-work order remains in effect while inspectors review the scene and safety procedures; the length of the suspension has not been determined. Investigations of construction accidents can take several months, officials noted.
The stop-work order prevents any further construction activity at the parcel until inspectors complete their reviews and the county authorizes work to resume.
Emergency personnel transported four people with injuries described as minor. No fatalities have been reported. The rig struck parked and moving vehicles near the site, and investigators examined the equipment and the surrounding area.
The development had been planned as Citadel’s Miami headquarters amid increased interest from financial firms in the city. With the suspension in place, the project’s timeline and next steps remain uncertain until the investigation concludes and regulators lift the stop-work order.
Citadel did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside normal business hours.
