QuantumScape may swing 12%–15% after July 22 earnings
QuantumScape shares could swing about 12%–15% after its July 22 report as investors seek measurable updates on Eagle Line pilot cell output, yields and customer testing.
QuantumScape will report second-quarter results after the market closes on July 22, followed by a 5 p.m. ET conference call. Options traders are pricing an implied move of roughly 12% to 15% in either direction. The company ended last week at $5.86 and remains a low-revenue developer whose valuation depends on future commercial milestones.
Investors will focus on operational metrics from the Eagle Line pilot facility. QuantumScape announced installation completion and start-up began in April, and the first QSE-5 cells were produced. Management planned to increase output in the second quarter and to improve equipment uptime, throughput, process stability and cell reliability. Shareholders will look for specific, measurable figures on cell output, yields, equipment availability, customer shipments and automotive testing results.
Customer validation is part of the update. QuantumScape signed a multi-year research agreement with Honda R&D in June after Honda completed a technical evaluation and benchmarking program. The company has referenced potential collaboration with Volkswagen’s PowerCo and other automakers in prior statements.
On the financial side, QuantumScape reported $11 million of customer billings in the first quarter and $905 million of liquidity at March 31. It maintained full-year guidance for an adjusted EBITDA loss of $250 million to $275 million and capital expenditures of $40 million to $60 million.
Analysts have highlighted the importance of measurable milestones. Evercore ISI’s Chris McNally noted the company had not announced the ‘completion of any goals’ despite progress. UBS analyst Joseph Spak wrote that the company’s 2026 goals appear more ambiguous than a year earlier and questioned whether expansion into data-centre and robotics could divert focus from automotive applications.
Market data show sensitivity to quarterly updates. After the April report, shares initially rose about 23% before giving back most gains and finishing the session up 1.4%. The stock has high short interest and a large retail following. Options implied volatility and price changes determine the quoted 12%–15% expected range; an implied move reflects option prices rather than a directional forecast.
