Q32 Bio jumps 81% after Phase 2a bempikibart data
Q32 Bio shares rose 81% after the company reported positive 36-week topline results from Part B of its Phase 2a SIGNAL-AA trial for bempikibart.
Q32 Bio’s stock climbed 81% after the company reported positive 36-week topline data from Part B of its Phase 2a SIGNAL-AA trial for bempikibart, an anti-IL-7R antibody. The unblinded readout showed a 40% SALT-20 response in a modified intent-to-treat cohort of 33 patients and reported durable, off-drug clinical responses at 36 weeks.
Bempikibart was tested in patients with severe or very severe alopecia areata. SALT-20 denotes at least a 20% improvement on the Severity of Alopecia Tool, a standard measure of scalp-hair loss. Part B focused on a small safety and efficacy population; the Phase 2a designation indicates early-stage data rather than results from large, randomized trials.
The rally pushed Q32 Bio’s market capitalization above $360 million and reflects a share price more than six times its level at the start of the year. Trading indicators showed heightened momentum after the readout, with the relative strength index rising into the mid-70s.
Q32 Bio said it does not expect to start a registration-directed clinical program until the first half of 2027. The company completed a $55 million private placement in late May. The company has not disclosed a detailed funding plan for a registration program.
The Phase 2a safety population totaled 33 patients. Larger randomized trials are typically required to support registration and to confirm early durability signals observed in small cohorts. Q32 Bio has not released full Phase 2a datasets or a Phase 3 design at the time of the topline announcement.
Company materials highlight that bempikibart’s mechanism could lead to durable responses off treatment, which differs from currently approved JAK inhibitors that generally require ongoing dosing. Whether the 36-week off-drug responses replicate in broader studies remains to be established through further clinical testing.
Further detailed data releases, the company’s disclosures on trial design and regulatory strategy, and any additional capital raises will be the next milestones market participants watch as Q32 Bio advances its development program.
