Point72 Hires Ex-JPMorgan Risk Head for Risk Technology

Point72 hired Ashot Ordukhanyan, former co-head of JPMorgan’s equities central risk book, as head of risk technology in New York.

Point72 has hired Ashot Ordukhanyan as head of risk technology in New York. He joins from ActiveViam, where he was head of quantitative development for two years. Before ActiveViam, he served two years as co-head of JPMorgan’s equities central risk book.

Ordukhanyan’s career spans more than two decades at banks and trading firms. He spent 14 years at Goldman Sachs and became co-head of US equity algorithmic trading strategies. He later ran rates algorithmic trading at RBS and led equity strategies for the Americas at Deutsche Bank before moving to JPMorgan.

Central risk book teams monitor and manage exposures generated by trading desks across a bank. Firms use quantitative techniques to aggregate positions and measure potential losses. Hedge funds with multiple strategies use technology to monitor positions and manage risk across investment teams. Ordukhanyan has worked on quantitative methods and risk-management technology.

The appointment coincides with senior technology turnover at Point72. Guillaume Gimonet, global head of treasury technology, left this month to join Vanguard as head of fixed-income and ETF technology. Gimonet spent seven years at Point72 and previously led macro risk and treasury technology; before joining Point72 he was a managing director at Credit Suisse and chief technology officer at Soros Fund Management.

Point72 declined to comment on the appointment.
