PicPay integrates ChatGPT for in-chat account access

PicPay lets customers view balances, transactions and bills inside ChatGPT after authenticating via the PicPay app. Initial rollout is limited to a VIP list.

Brazilian digital bank PicPay (NASDAQ: PICS) launched an integration with ChatGPT that allows customers to access account information inside the chatbot after securely authenticating through the PicPay mobile app. The initial rollout is being offered to a VIP list and the feature is available on Android and iOS at no extra cost, regardless of a user’s ChatGPT subscription tier, the company said.

After users grant permission, ChatGPT presents account details in conversational language. Connected customers can view checking account and savings jar balances, pending bills, investment information, active cards, a list of favorite Pix contacts, and recent and upcoming transactions. PicPay highlighted example prompts such as ‘What is my available balance?’ and ‘Do I have any bills due this week?’.

Authentication is handled with OAuth: ChatGPT redirects users to the PicPay app to confirm identity and authorize which data may be accessed, including balances and transaction history. PicPay stated that data exchanges follow its security standards and comply with Brazil’s General Data Protection Law (LGPD). Users can disable the connection by uninstalling the PicPay plugin from ChatGPT.

The initial experience is read-only and does not permit transfers, payments or other transactions through ChatGPT. Eligible customers can connect accounts by selecting PicPay in ChatGPT’s Plugins tab and following the on-screen steps.

PicPay is also running an advertising campaign inside ChatGPT as part of an ads pilot in Brazil. The campaign was developed with agency BETC Havas. According to the company, ads appear separately from ChatGPT responses and are clearly labeled as sponsored content.

Eduardo Chedid, PicPay’s chief executive, commented that the company expects generative AI to make interactions with financial information simpler and more contextual for customers. PicPay added that it sees AI helping users compare offers, identify returns and track expenses, and that the integration builds on increased digital adoption since the launch of Pix.
