PANTA launches AI layer to speed index testing

PANTA’s AI layer lets firms describe index rules in plain English to generate and backtest indices in minutes while keeping calculations deterministic and auditable.

PANTA has launched an AI layer that lets financial firms write index rules in plain English and then generate and backtest indices in minutes. The company says the feature accelerates index design while leaving the platform’s calculation engine unchanged.

The new layer uses conversational AI to translate plain-language instructions into working index methodologies. It also produces AI-generated commentaries that explain index performance in backtests. PANTA says users review and refine the AI output before deployment.

PANTA wrote that the AI layer sits on top of a deterministic core, so index calculations remain reproducible, explainable and auditable for regulators and internal audit teams. “AI changes how users interact with the platform day to day, not how the numbers are produced,” the company added.

Tobias Sproehnle, chief executive, stated: “Reliability is something we will never compromise on. What AI does is close the gap between an idea and a tested index. Work that used to take days or weeks can now take minutes, with the same rigour underneath.”

The feature is part of PANTA’s Index Operating System, a single platform to design, test and manage indices. PANTA was founded in 2024 by index industry veterans and says its team has more than 125 years of domain experience.

The company reported raising GBP3 million from Fuel Ventures and Innovate UK, forming a strategic partnership with data firm Rimes, and receiving two recognitions at the FStech Awards.

PANTA values the index industry at about USD22 trillion and says many firms still use disconnected manual processes and legacy technology. The company says the new layer aims to reduce lead times in index design while preserving auditability and compliance.

PANTA’s materials state that teams continue to validate and refine AI outputs before creating live indices, and that the deterministic calculation core remains unchanged.
