Palantir Falls 6.6% as Investors Take Profits After Rally

Palantir shares dropped 6.6% to $168.04 Wednesday after a roughly 48% August rally, with institutional sales including ARK Invest offloading about 139,456 shares.

Palantir Technologies shares fell 6.6% to $168.04 on Wednesday as investors locked in gains after a roughly 48% advance in August. Institutional selling, including a large block sale by ARK Invest, added downward pressure on the stock.

The stock climbed from $125.65 on Aug. 3, the day of Palantir’s second-quarter earnings report, to $186.31 by Aug. 31. The company had closed at a 2026 high of $186.38 two sessions before Wednesday’s decline.

Palantir reported second-quarter revenue growth of 93% year over year, and U.S. commercial revenue nearly doubled. Those results coincided with the August rally and renewed investor interest in the company’s commercial and government business lines.

Institutional selling intensified the pullback. ARK Invest sold about 139,456 Palantir shares, roughly $26 million, on Aug. 31 and reduced its position multiple times during August. The firm shifted capital into other stocks, including Block and Rocket Lab.

Palantir announced a senior executive hire on Wednesday. Peter Zaffino, the former CEO and executive chairman of AIG, will join Palantir as Global Head of Financial Services on Jan. 15, 2027. Palantir co-founder and CEO Alex Karp described Zaffino as someone who “has spent his career challenging inertia and rejecting incrementalism within large enterprises.”

The company also disclosed a U.S. Army prime agreement for eight TITAN ground stations, a contract valued at $127 million. The award moves the TITAN program from prototype into production and lists partners including Anduril Industries and L3Harris Technologies. Futurum Equities strategist Shay Boloor characterized the contract as pushing Palantir further into owning the full battlefield system.

Profit-taking after the monthlong rally and institutional sales erased part of August’s gains, and the stock’s price movement reflected trading activity around the company’s strong quarterly results, the ARK Invest sales and the new contract and hire announcements.
