Nio Forms Bullish Pattern Ahead of Sept. 1 Earnings

Nio held $4.37 support and formed a falling-wedge pattern ahead of its Sept. 1 earnings; BYD warned of slowing Chinese auto demand and rising raw-material and chip costs.

Nio’s stock traded at a technical support level near $4.37 and formed a falling-wedge chart pattern ahead of its Sept. 1 earnings release. The Percentage Price Oscillator showed a bullish divergence as the price formed two descending, converging trendlines. The stock reached a short-term resistance near $5 on July 31.

The company reported delivery growth through the summer. Nio delivered 107,658 vehicles in the second quarter, about 50% more than a year earlier. Monthly figures were 40,597 cars in June, up 62.9% year over year, and 35,934 cars in July, a 71% annual gain. Delivery momentum continued into the third quarter.

Analysts expect revenue for the period to rise roughly 75% year over year to about 33.3 billion yuan, with some projections above 35 billion yuan based on recent delivery strength and past reporting patterns. Investors will focus on profitability after Nio posted a net loss of more than $40 million in the first quarter, following a profit in the prior quarter.

On the chart, the stock has fallen in recent months and traded below major moving averages. The $4.37 level marked the low reached in February and March of last year. Technical indicators and the falling-wedge pattern are present on the price chart; market participants will watch price action around support and the nearby resistance level.

BYD, the largest Chinese electric-vehicle maker, reported that domestic auto demand has slowed as the broader economy cools. BYD’s management cited fierce competition and rising costs for raw materials and chips as pressure on margins. Several Chinese automakers, including Nio, have increased exports to Southeast Asia and Europe, and some shipments have gone to Canada after that country reduced EV tariffs.

Nio’s Sept. 1 results will provide updated revenue and margin figures that investors and analysts will use to assess the company’s near-term outlook amid slowing domestic consumption and higher input costs.
