Navi UPI upgrades fraud detection for UPI transactions
Navi UPI upgraded fraud detection across its UPI platform, adding real-time monitoring and stronger authentication to detect and block suspicious payments.
Navi UPI upgraded its fraud detection systems to strengthen security for users making Unified Payments Interface transactions. The work focuses on identifying suspicious activity in real time and reducing unauthorized payments.
The upgrades add advanced transaction monitoring that flags unusual patterns such as sudden spikes in amount or frequency, and they include stronger identity checks at the point of payment. The platform uses enhanced algorithms to detect anomalies and tighter authentication controls to limit account takeover and fraudulent transfers.
The company said the changes were rolled out across its UPI user base in recent weeks and cover both peer-to-peer transfers and merchant payments. The platform now generates real-time alerts when transactions meet risk thresholds and prompts extra verification or places temporary holds on suspect transfers until a user or support team confirms the activity.
Navi added that automated monitoring runs alongside backend review processes so staff can intervene when irregular activity is detected. The firm has increased the frequency of risk model updates to reduce false positives and better separate legitimate transactions from fraudulent ones.
Users will experience passive monitoring that runs in the background and active protections that require interaction when a transaction appears risky. Navi recommends keeping device software up to date, using secure networks and reporting unfamiliar transactions to its support team immediately.
UPI is India’s real-time payment system that enables instant fund transfers between bank accounts via mobile apps. As UPI volumes have risen, banks and fintechs have expanded fraud detection to address scams such as phishing, social engineering and unauthorized transfers, and Navi’s updates align with that broader industry effort.
