Nasdaq adds agentic AI agents to Calypso platform
Nasdaq has added autonomous, generative-AI agents to its Calypso platform to automate post-trade workflows and execute operational processes for financial firms.
Nasdaq has added agentic capabilities to its Calypso platform, embedding autonomous software agents to carry out trade lifecycle tasks, automate operational workflows and support decision-making for financial institutions.
The agents use generative AI and natural-language understanding to interpret user requests, fetch and analyze data across Calypso modules and connected feeds, and execute predefined processes such as reconciliation, exception handling and report generation. Nasdaq described the upgrade as intended to speed processing and reduce manual intervention in post-trade operations.
Deployment of the agentic features is delivered as a configurable layer on top of existing Calypso functionality. Firms can enable agents to run scheduled checks, respond to ad hoc queries from operations teams or trigger workflows when specific market or position thresholds are reached. Integration uses APIs and connectors to link agents with Calypso’s trade, collateral and risk modules and with external data sources, according to Nasdaq.
Controls for governance and auditability are built into the feature set. Agents operate in permissioned environments and generate audit logs of decisions and actions so human overseers can review activity and intervene. Firms can set guardrails for permitted actions, require approvals for certain automated steps and monitor agent performance through tracking and logging tools.
Nasdaq said the functionality targets sell-side and buy-side firms that use Calypso for derivatives, securities and treasury processing. Early adopters are expected to run pilot programs to tune agent behavior to their operational rules before broader rollouts.
Nasdaq noted industry concerns about operational risk and regulatory oversight of automated decision-making. The company described human-in-the-loop controls, traceability and model monitoring as part of the implementation, and said firms remain responsible for validating agent outputs and maintaining compliance with reporting and risk-management requirements.
Calypso is a front-to-back platform used by banks, brokers and asset managers for trade processing, risk analytics, collateral management and regulatory reporting. The added agents combine large-language-model driven natural-language understanding with execution connectors that can suggest and carry out actions within established business rules.
Nasdaq framed the release as aligned with a wider industry move toward embedding AI agents in core financial infrastructure, while offering configurable controls and logging for oversight.
