Mollie completes acquisition of GoCardless
Mollie has completed its acquisition of GoCardless. GoCardless will operate as “GoCardless, a Mollie company” under co‑founder Hiroki Takeuchi.
Mollie has completed its acquisition of GoCardless, combining the two payments firms under the leadership of Mollie CEO Koen Köppen. GoCardless will retain its brand as “GoCardless, a Mollie company” and continue to be led by co‑founder Hiroki Takeuchi. The combined group serves more than 350,000 businesses across over 30 markets.
The transaction joins Mollie’s card and local payment services with GoCardless’s Pay by Bank solution, which is available in 38 countries. Mollie said the firms will work to offer payments, accounts and business financing from a single provider, with the stated aim of simplifying how merchants manage receivables and business cash. Existing customers will not see immediate changes to services, contacts or contracts; the companies plan a phased integration driven by customer needs.
Köppen will lead the combined organisation while GoCardless keeps its executive team and brand identity to reflect the strategic importance of its bank‑based payment technology. Mollie described both companies as pursuing similar market strategies, including support for local payment methods, native language support and local onboarding. Mollie operates teams across 12 cities in the European Economic Area, while GoCardless has established operations in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Both businesses reported recent improvements in profitability. Mollie reached EBITDA profitability in 2024 and reported €147 million in net revenue for 2025. GoCardless recorded its first EBITDA‑positive quarter in the summer of 2025. Mollie said those results allow a measured, customer‑first approach to combining products and services.
Koen Köppen described the deal as expanding customer capabilities and said customers would have a single financial partner to support growth. The companies said they will announce integration milestones and product updates as work progresses, with the aim of offering a broader set of financial services to merchants in Europe and other markets where the group now operates.
