Modine Wins $4B AI Data-Center Cooling Deal; Stock Jumps
Modine agreed to supply over $4 billion of Airedale cooling systems to an unnamed AI data‑center customer for 2027–2029, received $165 million upfront and shares rose about 17%.
Modine agreed to supply more than $4 billion of its Airedale cooling systems to an unnamed strategic AI data‑center customer for calendar years 2027 through 2029 and received a $165 million upfront cash payment to support manufacturing capacity.
Shares climbed more than 17% during the trading session and earlier rose as much as 21%, putting the stock near an all‑time high and marking one of its strongest single‑day gains in months.
Under the multi‑year supply agreement, Modine will deliver Airedale products engineered for high‑performance data centers between 2027 and 2029. The customer was not disclosed; Modine described it as one of its strategic data‑center partners. The company said the $165 million upfront payment will fund manufacturing capacity investments and related expenditures to meet contract requirements.
The contract size significantly exceeds Modine’s current data‑center revenue base. Modine reported approximately $700 million in data‑center sales in fiscal 2025. The new agreement implies roughly $1.3 billion in annualized revenue beginning in 2027. Modine’s data‑center segment posted 78% sales growth in its most recent quarter, and prior management guidance had projected the business could reach $2 billion in annual revenue by 2028.
External estimates place the deal in context of Modine’s total revenue. Fiscal.ai projects Modine’s total sales for fiscal 2026 at about $3.15 billion, making the $4 billion agreement larger than that projected full‑year revenue. Several analysts, including B. Riley, Oppenheimer, KeyBanc, DA Davidson and UBS, have raised price targets on Modine shares recently; an updated analyst fair value estimate of $249 was noted in market commentary.
Modine is undertaking a strategic reshaping of its operations. The company plans to separate its lower‑margin Performance Technologies segment by the fourth quarter of 2026 to focus on climate solutions for data centers, HVAC and refrigeration. Management stated the separation will concentrate resources on higher‑growth areas tied to data‑center cooling demand.
Chief Executive Neil Brinker stated in a company release that the agreement is “a testament to the successful execution of our long‑term strategy to grow our Data Centers business and validates our position as a technology leader.”
The contract provides Modine with multi‑year production visibility and a cash infusion to scale manufacturing. The identity of the customer remains confidential. Advanced cooling systems like Airedale are being used by hyperscale operators as AI training and inference workloads increase thermal intensity and energy requirements.
