Millennium opens Sydney office, takes stakes in Sharon AI, IREN
Millennium Management has opened a Sydney CBD office, built a roughly 20‑person Australian team and held about $131m in Sharon AI and $63m in IREN at June 30, filings show.
Millennium Management has opened a Sydney central business district office and assembled a roughly 20‑person team in Australia, its US regulatory filings show.
The New York‑based multi‑strategy manager, which manages about $97 billion, sent president and chief operating officer Ajay Nagpal and Benjamin Williams, head of business development for Asia, to Sydney earlier this month in connection with the new office.
Quarterly filings for the three months ended June 30 show Millennium held about $131 million of shares in Sharon AI, equal to roughly 5% of the company, and about $63 million of shares in IREN.
Recent local hires include Shaurya Visen, who joined Millennium in July after serving as Bank of America’s head of Australian industrials research. The firm also provided seed capital for a new long‑short equity fund launched by former Perpetual portfolio manager Anthony Aboud.
The Sydney office does not appear among Millennium’s five publicly listed Asia‑Pacific locations and has no publicly advertised telephone number or email address; media enquiries are handled by the firm’s London office.
Millennium’s filings and staffing moves document the firm’s direct equity positions in companies with Australian roots, recent recruitment from major banks and capital support for locally run funds as it builds its local operations.
