Millennium Management to Open Athens Office

Millennium Management will open an office in Athens, Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis announced after talks with Millennium President Ajay Nagpal and EMEA CEO Martin Pabari.

Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis announced the plans after talks with Millennium President Ajay Nagpal and EMEA CEO Martin Pabari. Millennium is preparing to establish a presence in Athens, but no launch date was given.

The new office will connect local asset managers to Millennium’s global platform and support the development of Greece’s asset-management sector.

Discussions followed a meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the finance ministry said. Officials described the development as part of efforts to attract international financial firms and professionals to Athens.

Millennium stated the Athens operation will be part of its wider effort to recruit investment professionals worldwide and link them to the firm’s global resources.

Founded in 1989 by Israel Englander, Millennium manages more than $97 billion in assets and employs over 7,000 people globally, according to company figures.

The planned office will join other alternative investment firms that have expanded in Greece in recent years. No details were provided on the size of the Athens team, the specific services the office will offer, or the hiring timeline. Millennium did not specify whether the new operation will focus on portfolio management, trading, research or back-office support.
