Microsoft warning boosts outlook for Quantum Computing Inc.
Microsoft announced plans to transition products to post-quantum cryptography by 2029. QUBT traded near $8.75 with a consensus analyst target of $18.33.
Microsoft announced an acceleration of its Quantum Safe Program, aiming to transition products and services to post-quantum cryptography by 2029. Azure CTO Mark Russinovich wrote that advances in quantum research have ‘shifted the risk horizon’ and warned attackers could ‘harvest now, decrypt later’—storing encrypted data today to decrypt once quantum machines gain power.
The company outlined technical priorities that include updates to TLS 1.3, greater crypto-agility, certificate trust chains, code signing, hardware-backed protections and data protection across its cloud services.
The announcement has relevance for firms that supply quantum-safe security and secure communications. Quantum Computing Inc. mixes integrated photonics, quantum optics, cybersecurity, sensing and secure communications rather than focusing solely on quantum-computing hardware.
QUBT completed its acquisition of NuCrypt in March 2026 for $5 million, adding quantum communications systems, products and patents related to quantum optics, RF-photonics and photonic signal processing. In June 2026, QUBT closed the purchase of NHanced Semiconductors, which the company says adds scalable chip manufacturing capacity for its quantum and photonics technologies and supports a vertically integrated platform spanning research, development and production.
Analysts present a range of price targets for QUBT. A consensus target is $18.33, with a high target of $30 and a low target of $10. With the stock trading near $8.75, the consensus target represents approximately 111% upside from current levels.
Ascendiant Capital analyst Edward Woo reiterated a Buy rating and raised his target to $30 from $27, citing management conversations and acquisition-driven revenue growth. Rosenblatt analyst John McPeake described QCi as having ‘legitimate quantum assets across photonics, compute, security, and sensing’ and highlighted thin-film lithium niobate fabrication that could support integrated quantum photonics. Lake Street maintained a Buy rating and a $16 target while noting that the financial contribution from the NHanced acquisition has not yet been quantified.
Analysts characterize QUBT as a speculative investment. The company is shifting from research and prototyping toward scaled production, and revenue contributions from recent acquisitions and demand for post-quantum security remain uncertain.
Microsoft’s timeline underscores the practical work required across networks and services to adopt post-quantum cryptography. Investors are watching smaller firms with exposure to photonics, secure communications and specialized chip manufacturing as organizations plan their post-quantum transitions.
