Micron shares fall again despite Trump praise, Mizuho
Micron fell 4% Thursday after a 10% drop Wednesday, extending a pullback despite President Trump’s praise and Mizuho Securities maintaining a bullish outlook.
Micron Technology shares fell 4% on Thursday after tumbling 10% the previous day, extending a two-session pullback. Investors rotated out of high-growth technology stocks while Micron remained one of the year’s strongest performers.
Before the drops, Micron had risen 219% in 2026. Mizuho Securities noted the stock gained 242% during the second quarter. Traders and analysts attributed the recent decline to profit-taking and broad weakness in semiconductor names.
Earlier this week Micron said it would invest $250 million in ‘Trump Accounts,’ tax-advantaged savings accounts for children under 18. The program reserves a $1,000 deposit from the U.S. Treasury for children born between 2025 and 2028. President Trump praised the company on his social platform, writing that Micron had announced a ‘HISTORIC $250 MILLION Investment in TRUMP ACCOUNTS.’
Mizuho maintained an Outperform rating and set a $1,375 price target. Analyst Vijay Rakesh wrote that demand for memory products tied to artificial intelligence infrastructure should support near-term sales, adding that Micron is expected to remain a ‘key winner’ in memory through 2027.
The pullback in the U.S. coincided with a steep selloff in South Korea, where the KOSPI index fell 7.9% on Thursday. Major memory-chip makers SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics dropped 14.6% and 9.1%, respectively. The KOSPI has gained about 81% in 2026, compared with roughly a 9.3% rise for the S&P 500 over the same period.
Market participants noted heightened volatility in semiconductor stocks after a rapid rally earlier in the year. Mizuho’s July top picks included Micron, which the firm listed alongside other preferred names, reflecting its view that near-term volatility does not erase multiyear demand for memory products.
The company’s investment announcement and the presidential endorsement drew attention but did not stop the selling across the two sessions.
