Meta, D.E. Shaw ink 850 MW of PPAs in OK, TX and MS

Meta and D.E. Shaw locked 850 MW of power purchase agreements for 2026-500 MW in Oklahoma, 200 MW in Texas and 150 MW in Mississippi-raising contracted capacity to about 2,575 MW.

Meta and D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments have agreed to 850 megawatts of power purchase agreements for projects scheduled to come online in 2026. The deals allocate 500 MW to Oklahoma, 200 MW to Texas and 150 MW to Mississippi, bringing the partners’ contracted capacity to about 2,575 MW across nine states.

The agreements cover utility-scale solar paired with battery storage. D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments will build and operate the solar farms and batteries. Meta will buy the contracted power and associated renewable energy credits under long-term contracts.

DESRI expects roughly 1,110 MW of the partners’ total portfolio to begin construction this year. The company forecasts the construction phase will create hundreds of jobs in the states involved. The projects are planned to enter service in 2026 under the terms of the PPAs.

Power purchase agreements set a fixed price for electricity over multiple years, providing developers with predictable revenue that helps secure financing for large projects. Batteries will store excess solar output for later use, smoothing generation and improving the value of projects in areas with grid constraints.

Meta has previously committed to matching its electricity consumption with renewable energy purchases. These contracts add to that portfolio but do not mean Meta’s facilities will be physically powered only by the new solar panels at all times.

DESRI also plans scholarship funding for high-school students pursuing clean-energy careers in the states hosting the Meta-backed projects. The new PPAs add to earlier agreements between the two companies across multiple states.
