Klarna launches in-app inbox to verify merchant messages
Klarna today added an in-app inbox that centralizes merchant messages, verifies senders and filters suspected scam messages for users.
Klarna launched an in-app inbox today inside its consumer app. The inbox centralizes merchant communications, verifies sender identity and filters suspected scam messages for users.
Messages from merchants that use Klarna’s checkout and messaging tools will be routed to the inbox. Klarna applies verification checks and automated filters before delivering content. Verified messages show a visible indicator so customers can distinguish authenticated communications from unverified or potentially fraudulent ones. Messages flagged as suspicious will be quarantined or blocked, and users can report or delete them.
The feature is designed to centralize post-purchase messages such as receipts, shipping updates, order confirmations and return instructions. The inbox displays merchant details beside each message so users can confirm the sender without leaving the app.
The system scans links and sender metadata and runs fraud-detection models to identify patterns commonly associated with scams. Because Klarna manages payments and order records, the inbox can cross-check message content against transaction data to flag messages that reference purchases not found in Klarna’s records.
The inbox will be available in the Klarna app from today. No separate account is required beyond an existing Klarna login; customers should update the app to the latest version to access the feature. The inbox includes tools to report suspicious messages and to access support or dispute options tied to a message.
Merchants using Klarna’s systems must follow the company’s messaging guidelines and verification requirements for messages to appear authenticated. Participating merchants can send branded messages that include order details and links for returns or customer service within the app.
Klarna described the inbox as intended to reduce scams and make merchant communication clearer, and indicated that filters and verification processes will be refined over time. The company plans additional verification checks and merchant integrations in the coming months and encourages users to report suspicious messages to help improve detection.
The launch follows industry efforts to strengthen sender authentication and message filtering as fraud and phishing target online shoppers and e-commerce channels.
