Iron Road Partners hires ex-SEC enforcer Jim McGovern

Iron Road Partners named James ‘Jim’ McGovern managing director. He spent nine years in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement and later served as GC and CCO at several hedge funds.

Iron Road Partners has hired James ‘Jim’ McGovern as managing director. He joins the regulatory consultancy after nine years at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement, where he rose to assistant director in the Asset Management Unit.

At the SEC, McGovern worked on enforcement matters involving the investment management industry. After leaving the agency, he moved into senior legal and compliance roles at hedge fund firms, most recently serving as general counsel and chief compliance officer at Candlestick Capital Management.

McGovern previously held senior legal and compliance responsibilities at Mason Capital Management and was chief compliance officer at Hutchin Hill Capital. He began his legal career in the litigation department of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan.

He holds a JD from Boston College Law School and a BA from Boston College.

Iron Road Partners said the appointment strengthens its roster of former senior SEC officials and its hedge fund advisory practice. The firm’s leadership includes former regulators and senior compliance executives from the asset management industry.

Iron Road expects McGovern’s experience in enforcement and in-house hedge fund compliance will inform advice it gives managers on meeting regulatory requirements.
