SPMO Attracts $3.59B as Momentum Broadens
Invesco’s S&P 500 Momentum ETF (SPMO) drew about $3.59 billion in net inflows over the past three months amid broader momentum leadership.
The Invesco S&P 500 Momentum ETF (SPMO) recorded approximately $3.59 billion in net inflows over the past three months and about $1.02 billion in the most recent month. The fund reported a 12-month return of 26.89% and carries an expense ratio of 0.13%.
SPMO tracks the S&P 500 Momentum Index, which selects and weights S&P 500 constituents based on price momentum rather than market capitalization. The index rebalances twice a year; the semiannual refresh updates holdings and weights to reflect recent price trends and increase exposure to stocks showing sustained relative strength.
Over the past 12 months SPMO returned 26.89%, compared with 26.18% for the iShares MSCI USA Momentum Factor ETF (MTUM) and 17.43% for the S&P 500 Total Return Index. The differences in returns relate to index construction and the investable universe: SPMO limits holdings to S&P 500 companies and weights by momentum characteristics, while MTUM selects from a broader large- and mid-cap universe and applies a risk-adjusted momentum screen.
Momentum leadership during the period expanded beyond a small group of large technology names into industrials, financials and other cyclical sectors. Persistent uncertainty about inflation, interest rates, valuations and earnings coincided with increased flows into factor-based strategies and into funds that overweight recent price performers.
