Interactive Brokers links Claude for agentic trading

IBKR integrated Anthropic’s Claude via a certified connector, letting clients link accounts for AI-generated trade instructions that require client approval.

Interactive Brokers has integrated Anthropic’s Claude through a certified connector, allowing clients to link existing IBKR accounts to the AI platform for agentic trading. The integration is live and uses IBKR’s account APIs. Clients can connect in minutes using their IBKR login at no additional cost and without opening a new brokerage account.

Claude can access account-level API functions that many IBKR users rely on, including positions, open orders, trade history, margin information and market data. The AI can answer natural-language questions about a portfolio, run analyses based on account data and generate trade instructions tied to that analysis.

Any AI-generated instructions appear in an AI Instructions tab on the Orders and Trades page across IBKR platforms. Clients must review and approve those instructions before Interactive Brokers will submit them as orders to the market.

At launch the connector supports equities and ETFs and can generate market and limit orders. IBKR said additional asset classes will be added within about a week. The enterprise-level integration does not share API keys or passwords with the AI provider and does not store authentication credentials on the client device.

IBKR provided examples of queries the integration can handle, such as calculating sector exposure, identifying positions with the largest unrealized gains or losses, and modeling steps to rebalance to a target sector weight. The Claude connector is available through the AI platform’s connector marketplace.

Other AI connectors for ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini and xAI’s Grok are in IBKR’s certification process and are expected to be available to clients soon. The Claude integration complements IBKR’s existing AI features, including AI Screeners, Investment Themes, Connections, Ask IBKR and AI News Summaries.

Milan Galik, Interactive Brokers’ CEO, commented: “Interactive Brokers has used technology for over four decades to help investors make more informed decisions and interact more efficiently with markets. Investors are increasingly using artificial intelligence to research markets, analyze information and generate ideas. We believe the next logical step is to allow clients to securely connect AI tools directly to their brokerage accounts — whether they want a simple conversational interface, deeper portfolio analysis or the ability to develop and execute sophisticated trading strategies.”
