Interac, Incode to add deepfake, liveness checks in Canada

Interac will integrate Incode’s passive liveness, deepfake and injection-attack detection into Interac Verified, with exclusive Canadian rights and a phased rollout by Q3 2026.

Interac will integrate identity-security firm Incode Technologies’ passive liveness checks, deepfake detection and injection-attack detection into its Interac Verified document verification service. The agreement grants Interac exclusive rights to deploy Incode’s document verification technology in Canada. The companies plan a phased rollout targeting Q3 2026. Data residency will default to Canada.

Incode’s passive liveness capability is independently validated at iBeta’s Level 3 for iOS and Android and reportedly achieved zero errors in testing. The integration will include Deepsight, an intelligence layer that runs multiple tests to detect AI-generated images and video, virtual camera feeds and signs of device tampering. An optional fraud network intelligence feature will allow participating organizations to share aggregated risk signals to help spot emerging fraud patterns.

Interac expects the upgraded verification to support digital account openings, customer onboarding, credit applications and other higher-risk transactions that require stronger identity checks.

“The goal is simple: build trust into digital interactions in Canada,” said Fatema Pirone, head of Verification at Interac.

“By combining identity verification with advanced defenses against deepfakes, injection attacks and other sophisticated forms of impersonation, this collaboration helps bring stronger assurance to more Canadian businesses without adding unnecessary friction for legitimate users,” Ricardo Amper, founder and CEO of Incode Technologies, emphasized.

Interac is a Canadian-owned network that operates national-scale services and has invested in verification tools in recent years. The companies said the integrated offering will use privacy-protective signals. Details on availability and pricing will be provided as the phased rollout progresses.
