HKDAP set to settle tokenized MMF subscriptions

HKDAP, a 1:1 HKD stablecoin from Anchorpoint, is being used to settle tokenized money market fund subscriptions on-chain. Standard Chartered became HKDAP’s first distributor and plans MMF settlement in Q4 2026.

Anchorpoint Financial issues HKDAP, a Hong Kong-dollar stablecoin with a par value of HK$1, under Hong Kong’s stablecoin regulatory framework. Anchorpoint backs HKDAP with reserve assets required to equal or exceed the par value in circulation. The issuer describes HKDAP as a settlement and payment instrument rather than an investment product; it does not pay yield. Standard Chartered was named the first bank distributor for HKDAP on August 24, 2026, and plans to offer tokenized money market fund subscription and settlement services with asset managers in Q4 2026. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s Project Ensemble and the e-HKD pilot list tokenized MMF settlement as an initial use case for pairing tokenized assets with regulated digital money.

In pilot scenarios institutional investors hold HKDAP through authorised access channels, submit subscription orders on tokenized MMF platforms, transfer payment on-chain using HKDAP and receive tokenized fund units into eligible wallets or institutional accounts. Smart contracts can run eligibility checks, trigger token issuance and complete settlement so the asset and payment legs are coordinated on the same or interoperable blockchain rails. The HKMA’s e-HKD research defines atomic settlement as the simultaneous, irrevocable transfer of asset and payment and identifies e-HKD, tokenized deposits and regulated stablecoins as possible on-chain money forms to support such arrangements.

HKDAP is issued under Hong Kong’s regulatory rules for stablecoins and must be fully backed by reserve assets. Production platforms designed for institutional settlement need embedded compliance controls, including know-your-customer and anti-money-laundering checks, investor accreditation, wallet whitelisting, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, custody controls and regulatory reporting. Operators must also put in place legal arrangements that define the relationship between an on-chain token and the underlying fund interest to establish legal finality for transfers.

Pilots and industry materials identify several technical and operational challenges. Interoperability is required across token standards, payment instruments, custodians and institutional systems. Custody solutions must meet institutional security and control requirements. Tokenization does not by itself create secondary-market liquidity. Smart contracts require testing and independent security assessment to reduce operational risk. Privacy protections must reconcile blockchain transparency with confidentiality and data protection obligations.

Hong Kong’s Project Ensemble moved from concept and sandbox work into an EnsembleTX pilot phase aimed at real-value transactions involving tokenized deposits and digital assets. The use of HKDAP for tokenized MMF subscription and settlement is part of those pilot activities. Standard Chartered’s distributor role and the EnsembleTX pilot are scheduled test points for integrating tokenized asset workflows with regulated on-chain money in an institutional context.
