Hiab to buy Labrie Environmental for $1.04B
Hiab will buy U.S. refuse truck maker Labrie Environmental Group for $1.04 billion, allowing Wynnchurch Capital to exit its Fund V investment; the deal is expected to close in Q3 2026.
Finnish-listed equipment maker Hiab Oyj agreed to acquire Labrie Environmental Group for $1.04 billion. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
Hiab said the purchase aims to strengthen its position in the North American waste and recycling market and expand its footprint in municipal and industrial equipment segments.
Hiab has secured acquisition financing through agreements with Danske Bank and OP Corporate Bank. Completion will follow the usual conditions and approvals required for deals of this size.
Labrie reported about $491 million in revenue for the 12 months to March 2026. All sales were generated in North America through its dealer network.
The company operates four manufacturing facilities across the United States, Canada and Mexico and employs roughly 1,200 people.
Wynnchurch Capital acquired Labrie in 2020 as the first platform investment in its Fund V. The sale will allow the private equity owner to realize that investment.
Hiab Chief Executive Scott Phillips described the acquisition as expected to deliver “significant value for all stakeholders post-closing” and indicated the group will pursue growth through bolt-on and platform expansion in adjacent end markets.
The deal adds manufacturing capacity and a dealer-based sales footprint in North America and increases Hiab’s exposure to refuse collection vehicles and related equipment.
