FTSE Russell launches MarketPsych AI thematic index series
FTSE Russell and MarketPsych launched the FTSE MarketPsych Thematic Index Series, using AI and NLP on LSEG news, transcripts and financial data to build thematic investment indices.
FTSE Russell has launched the FTSE MarketPsych Thematic Index Series in partnership with MarketPsych. The series uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing to analyse LSEG news, company transcripts and financial data to build thematic index frameworks for global investors.
MarketPsych’s AI classifies text and numeric data to produce a thematic database. FTSE Russell then applies its transparent, rules-based index methodology to that database to select and weight constituents. FTSE Russell says the process is intended to produce scalable, investable indices that provide systematic, forward-looking exposure to defined themes.
Indexes are being developed across five pillars: Technology & Innovation; Society & Demographics; Geopolitical Realignment; Natural Resources & Infrastructure; and Health & Wellbeing. Topics under development include artificial intelligence, quantum computing, new energy and related infrastructure, space exploration and ageing populations.
Gerald Toledano, Global Head of Equities and Multi-Assets at FTSE Russell, said: “We are excited to launch the FTSE MarketPsych Thematic Index Series today, building on LSEG’s long-standing partnership with MarketPsych and reflecting FTSE Russell’s continued focus on developing innovative indexing solutions. By integrating MarketPsych’s AI technology-enabled workflow with LSEG’s extensive datasets and FTSE Russell’s rules-based index construction process, the series provides clients with a systematic and investable approach to accessing evolving investment themes.”
Richard Peterson, MarketPsych’s chief executive, added that the firm’s AI and NLP models generate differentiated datasets and insights that can be integrated into transparent, rules-based index construction, enabling institutionally scalable indices and broader access to MarketPsych’s analytics.
FTSE Russell said the indices will be available to a broad range of global investors and may be used in passive products or as benchmarks in active strategies. LSEG data inputs and MarketPsych’s sentiment analytics will be updated and applied through FTSE Russell’s established index governance. No launch dates for individual thematic indices were disclosed.
