Form3 launches AI agentic payments infrastructure

UK cloud payments provider Form3 has launched an AI-powered agentic payments infrastructure to automate end-to-end payment workflows for banks, fintechs and payment service providers.

Form3, a UK cloud payments provider, launched an AI-powered agentic payments infrastructure that is available now to commercial customers. The platform uses autonomous software agents to automate and orchestrate end-to-end payment workflows for banks, fintechs and payment service providers.

The service combines Form3’s existing API-led payments hub with machine learning decision logic to handle routing, exception handling, liquidity and compliance across multiple payment rails. It routes payments in real time, applies risk and compliance checks, and resolves exceptions without human intervention where policy allows.

Models select payment rails, schedule liquidity movements and escalate issues when automated remediation fails. The architecture separates orchestration logic from plumbing so customers can keep control of business rules while Form3 handles execution and monitoring.

The platform connects to multiple domestic and international payment systems through a single API. It includes audit trails, reporting and real-time dashboards that show agent actions and payment states.

Pilots with early customers tested workflows for retail payments, payroll settlements and merchant payouts. The company reported reduced exception-handling times and fewer manual reconciliations in pilots, but did not disclose exact figures. The product will be offered in modular tiers so institutions can enable automated decisioning for some workflows and keep others under human control.

A Form3 spokesperson commented: “Banks and fintechs need payment systems that can make routine operational decisions reliably and at scale. Our agentic layer executes policies and intervenes only when it encounters scenarios outside pre-defined rules.”

Form3 highlighted controls that log agent actions and expose decision rationale. Customers set guardrails, approval thresholds and audit settings and retain responsibility for compliance and for setting the policy rules that guide agent behaviour.

The infrastructure is cloud-hosted and will be maintained centrally with regular model refreshes and security patches. Form3 positioned the infrastructure to address rising volumes of instant payments and cross-border flows and to reduce the operational burden of fragmented clearing networks.

Form3 expects the product to appeal to mid-sized banks and fintech firms. Larger institutions may pilot specific use cases before wider rollout. The company plans to expand functionality and refine models based on customer feedback and operating data from early deployments.
