Fidelity launches thematic ETFs for innovation sectors

Fidelity launched a set of thematic ETFs that give investors tradable exposure to companies tied to themes such as AI, clean energy, genomics and automation.

Fidelity Investments launched a group of thematic exchange-traded funds listed on U.S. exchanges to provide investors single-ticket exposure to companies tied to specific innovation themes. The funds are available to retail and institutional investors through brokerage and retirement accounts.

Each ETF targets a defined theme — Fidelity cited examples including artificial intelligence, clean energy, genomics and automation — and holds companies whose revenue, products or technologies align with the theme. Holdings can include pure-play firms and companies that derive a significant portion of revenue from relevant businesses, across market-cap ranges and industry classifications.

The funds use a rules-based selection approach. Published fund methodology sets criteria for inclusion, weighting and regular rebalancing to reflect changes in companies’ exposure to the theme. Shares trade intraday on exchanges, allowing investors to buy and sell during market hours.

Fund documents and prospectuses detail objectives, holdings, methodology, fees and risks. Materials note risks tied to concentrated exposure to a single theme, potential sector overlap with other funds, portfolio turnover and the general risks of equity investing. Fidelity encourages investors to review these documents to understand how each ETF defines and measures theme exposure.

Fidelity described the ETFs as additions to its existing lineup and as complements to the firm’s index and active strategies. The firm made fund documents available through standard market channels, including prospectuses that outline rebalancing schedules and inclusion thresholds.

Thematic ETFs have expanded in recent years as managers offer funds that concentrate on long-term structural trends. These products differ from broad-market index funds by focusing on specific revenue or technology criteria. Listing rules and disclosure requirements govern how such ETFs are structured and presented to investors.
