Edward Jones’ Matt Mintz prioritizes mentoring

Edward Jones advisor Matt Mintz in Austin has mentored four early-career advisors since 2020 and won the firm’s New Advisor Mentorship Awards in 2025 and 2026.

Matt Mintz, a financial advisor with Edward Jones in Austin, began his planning career in 2020 and has prioritized mentoring early-career advisors while growing his own practice. He has mentored four advisors and received Edward Jones’ New Advisor Mentorship Awards in 2025 and 2026.

Mintz worked in information security for three years before moving into financial planning. He has built an $85 million book of business and has focused part of his practice on employer-sponsored retirement plans.

Within the firm, Mintz participates in the national mentorship program and in the PRISM Conference, which supports advisor training and leadership. He takes on mentees who call with planning questions or career concerns and makes time outside regular hours to review cases before client meetings.

He has helped fellow advisors develop procedures and planning frameworks for workplace retirement plans, and he shares those templates and processes with colleagues to support consistent client advice.

Mintz also meets with students exploring financial planning careers and volunteers with the Association of Financial Educators. He gives presentations at businesses, libraries and retirement homes on investing basics, saving through 401(k) plans, estate planning and cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is a recurring topic because of his prior work as an information security analyst and social engineer.

Mintz recalled his mentor’s single request when he started: ‘Hey, I’m spending the time with you now. My one request is when you have an opportunity, start giving back.’ He describes his role to mentees as being available when they need help: ‘It’s just being available. Someone will call and say, “I have this case. I don’t know what to do. Alright, when is your meeting? Seven tomorrow morning? OK, let’s sit down and go through it.”‘

Casey Richards, an Edward Jones advisor who nominated Mintz for recognition, wrote that in six years Mintz has become an ‘exceptional financial planner’ and a leading peer mentor in the region.

Mintz holds a certified financial planner designation and credentials as a certified private wealth advisor, certified exit planning advisor, accredited asset management specialist, chartered retirement planning counselor and chartered retirement plans specialist. He has said he pursues those credentials to maintain technical competence and provide service to clients.
