Ecommpay launches QR payments for tips and donations

Ecommpay has launched a static QR code tool that enables merchants to create and publish reusable QR codes from its dashboard to collect one-off payments such as tips and donations on a merchant-branded hosted payment page. Ecommpay notes no development or integration work is required and that merchants can display a single code on printed signs, receipts or web pages.

The QR Code Payments tool is integrated into the Ecommpay dashboard and allows merchants to create, customise and deactivate codes without coding. When customers scan a static QR code they are taken to an Ecommpay-hosted payment page that displays the merchant’s branding. Merchants can configure whether customers enter a custom amount or choose from prefilled amounts, and the same code can remain active until it is turned off.

The solution supports all payment methods available on the Ecommpay platform and includes fraud and security checks such as 3D Secure authentication and address verification (AVS). The payment flow includes a configurable pre-checkout page where merchants select one of three amount-selection modes: custom amount only, preselected amounts only, or both. Merchants can also edit page elements including logo, background image, title, description, action-button text and the thank-you page.

Ecommpay notes the dashboard provides lifecycle management for codes, with creation, customisation, copy/download and deactivation functions limited to merchant admin and operations roles.

According to Artus Zaremba, head of payment solutions at Ecommpay, “Fewer customers carry cash today, so servers and charities can miss out even if someone wants to leave a tip or make a donation.” Zaremba said the feature is designed to make collecting one-off payments quick and simple in settings such as restaurants, charity collections, outdoor classes and market stalls.

Ecommpay highlights use cases where a card machine is impractical or where merchants need a low-effort way to accept occasional payments, including pay-as-you-go fitness sessions, goods sold at farmers’ markets, school fairs or donation buckets passed among attendees.

Ecommpay describes the tool as an option for merchants and charities to accept small, variable payments without installing hardware or building custom integrations.
