Dow futures up 130 points ahead of big tech earnings

Dow futures rose about 130 points as S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures gained modestly ahead of Alphabet, Tesla and Intel earnings after a semiconductor-led selloff.

U.S. stock futures rose on Monday, with Dow futures adding about 131 points. S&P 500 futures gained roughly 0.3% and Nasdaq 100 futures climbed about 0.6% in early New York trading, reflecting modest buying ahead of a busy technology earnings week.

The gains came after last week’s declines when investors cut exposure to crowded semiconductor positions. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index ended Friday about 20.2% below its June 22 record, following a roughly 10% drop over the week.

Alphabet and Tesla are set to report after Wednesday’s close, and Intel is due later in the week. Market participants will watch Alphabet for data-center spending and AI-related capital plans, and Tesla for updates on robotics and AI investments, margins and how those expenses are expected to affect future returns.

Kathleen Brooks, research director at XTB, warned: “The correction could continue if earnings show companies are still spending heavily without delivering clearer returns.” Brooks added that guidance on margins, capital expenditure and customer demand will matter more than backward-looking profit beats.

Energy and interest-rate factors were also in focus. Brent crude briefly rose above $90 a barrel after U.S. strikes on Iran and slower shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Recent U.S. consumer and producer inflation readings reduced the market-implied chance of a July Federal Reserve rate increase to about 12%, while markets judged the odds of a September hike to be roughly even.

Traders and investors will monitor quarterly results and company guidance this week to assess demand, spending and margin trends for technology and chip companies, with attention on forward guidance and capital-spending plans alongside reported earnings.
