Capula hires former Man AHL portfolio chief Tom Bowles
Capula has hired Tom Bowles, former head of portfolio management at Man AHL, after he completed gardening leave following an 18-year career.
Capula Investment Management has hired Tom Bowles, who returned from gardening leave after an 18-year career at Man Group’s AHL. He has taken up duties on Capula’s London investment platform.
At Man AHL, Bowles held senior portfolio management roles in the quant division and later led liquid alternatives trading. He was part of the unit’s partnership structure that runs systematic strategies across global markets.
Neither Capula nor Bowles have issued public statements confirming the appointment.
Market participants expect senior hires with Bowles’s profile are often brought into partner-level roles, but it is not yet clear whether he will join Capula’s partnership structure.
Capula has been expanding its London investment team through 2026 with multiple portfolio manager hires and trader additions. Recent additions include Robert Burleigh, a former trader at Jain Global who moved into a portfolio management role.
The firm has also acted to retain key staff. FX portfolio manager Tarun Tyagi, who had been expected to leave for Millennium Management after gardening leave, remained at Capula following the firm’s intervention.
Partnership compensation at Man AHL combined base pay with profit-sharing pools for senior partners running systematic strategies.
Hedge funds in London continue to compete for experienced quantitative and macro talent, prompting hiring across macro and systematic teams.
