Cambridge Associates is intensifying its focus on hedge funds to attract wealthy individuals and family offices in Asia seeking greater diversification after a strong run in public markets. The consultancy reports demand for alternative investments from private clients has risen as families and high-net-worth investors reassess portfolios.
The firm reports its private client business has grown rapidly over the past two years, with the number of clients increasing by about 60%. Wealthy individuals have made up roughly half of the firm’s Asia business so far this year. Cambridge Associates does not disclose assets for its regional private client operation.
Across the global group, the firm reported $667 billion in assets under management and advice at the end of 2025, including about $102 billion invested in hedge funds. Cambridge Associates maintains relationships with more than 1,000 hedge fund managers and uses that network to construct portfolios for private clients.
The Asia outreach targets both existing clients and prospective family offices, offering access to the manager network and portfolio construction experience. The firm presents hedge funds as an option for investors looking to reduce reliance on traditional equities and bonds and to gain exposure to different return drivers.
Ming Yan, managing director at Cambridge Associates, described hedge funds as “an increasingly important part of discussions with both existing clients and prospective families, particularly investors with limited previous exposure to the asset class.”
