Bunq completes Wero rollout across four markets

Bunq completed its Wero platform rollout across four markets this month, becoming the first bank to finish the deployment and unifying the app experience for customers.

Bunq has finished rolling out its Wero platform across four markets, with the final market switching to the new app this month. The bank says it is the first institution to complete deployment of Wero across those countries.

The rollout replaced previous market-specific apps with a single, unified platform. Bunq described Wero as an app that standardizes features, the user interface and update processes across its operating markets. The company framed the completion as a way to run one code base across multiple countries.

The migration was carried out in phases. Existing customers were moved onto Wero while new sign-ups were directed to the platform. The work included updating account screens, payment flows and backend systems so that customers in each market access the same core product. Company communications indicate customers did not need to open new accounts to move to Wero; existing accounts were migrated into the app environment.

Some customers received staged prompts to update their apps and accept new terms as their accounts shifted to Wero. Bunq expanded customer support channels during the migration to handle questions about app features, login details and the new interface. The bank reported that core services such as payments, direct debits and card management remained available throughout the migration.

Bunq was founded in the Netherlands and has focused on mobile-first banking and cross-border services for European customers. The company said the Wero rollout follows its strategy of building app-based products that can be used across different regulatory environments. Bunq also noted the same platform approach can be applied to other countries where it operates or plans to expand.

The bank highlighted operational benefits of a single platform for rolling out regulatory updates and product changes across markets.
