Bridgewater hires Brevan Howard oil strategist Kobi Platt

Bridgewater Associates has hired Kobi Platt, former head of commodity strategy at Brevan Howard, as a commodities specialist in its New York office.

Bridgewater Associates has hired Kobi Platt as a commodities specialist in its New York office. Platt joins from Brevan Howard, where he served as head of commodity strategy in New York.

Platt has more than two decades of experience in energy and commodities markets. Before Brevan Howard, he held investment roles at Balyasny Asset Management, Deep Basin Capital, Taylor Woods Capital and Tudor Investment Corporation. He joined Brevan Howard in 2024.

At Bridgewater, Platt will focus on commodities, with particular attention to oil markets, and will be based in the firm’s New York office. The firm maintains large macro and commodities trading operations.

Hedge funds and macro investors have increased demand for energy specialists as price swings and geopolitical tensions have affected supply, demand and trading patterns in crude and related markets.

Brevan Howard has been expanding its macro staff and has hired portfolio managers while reporting strong results across several strategies. Platt’s departure follows that period of expansion.

No financial terms of Platt’s hire were disclosed. Large macro managers continue to hire experienced commodities specialists to support portfolio decisions and risk management.
