Brazil’s CSD BR to use XRP Ledger for asset records

CSD BR will record and audit securities and other financial assets on the public XRP Ledger, creating cryptographic proofs of issuance, transfers and holdings.

CSD BR, Brazil’s central securities depository, announced it will use the public XRP Ledger to record and audit financial assets and securities. The depository plans to move part of its recordkeeping to a distributed ledger to produce cryptographically verifiable transaction and ownership records.

The organization intends to place audit-relevant data on the public ledger so issuance, transfers and holdings can be verified independently of its internal systems. CSD BR did not provide a rollout schedule or a full technical design for the integration.

The XRP Ledger is an open blockchain with fast transaction processing and low fees. By registering asset-related data on the ledger, CSD BR expects to create immutable time-stamped entries that auditors and authorized parties can use to confirm historical transactions and ownership changes. The scope includes traditional securities and other financial assets the depository manages or audits.

CSD BR plans to map existing asset records to cryptographic proofs recorded on the ledger rather than publish sensitive client data directly. The announcement did not specify whether the depository will use tokenization, hash-based anchoring of records, or a combination of techniques.

The depository will need to coordinate with custodians, clearing participants and regulators on data formats and access controls as the project advances. CSD BR has not released a technical roadmap or a timeline for pilots and wider deployment.

Operational questions that remain include disaster recovery arrangements, privacy protections, the legal status of ledger-based proofs under Brazilian law, and alignment between ledger records and existing central securities depository accounting and reconciliation processes. Further announcements are expected to clarify project partners, technical approach and regulatory coordination.

The announcement adds to a series of domestic initiatives and pilot programs in Brazil where regulators and market participants have been studying digital-asset frameworks and blockchain use cases for market infrastructure.
