Bluefin and Visa launch integrated in-person payments

Bluefin and Visa launched a unified in-person payment solution combining Bluefin’s PCI-validated P2PE and device management with Visa Acceptance Solutions’ processing and tokenization.

Bluefin and Visa announced a unified in-person payment offering this week that pairs Bluefin’s PCI-validated point-to-point encryption (P2PE) and device management with Visa Acceptance Solutions’ processing and tokenization. The product is intended for merchants, software providers and large organizations that accept card-present payments across multiple locations.

Bluefin supplies the P2PE solution, secure decryption services, a certified payment application, terminal integrations and its P2PE Manager®. Visa provides payment processing, tokenization and global routing through its Acceptance Solutions business. The partners said the combined architecture aims to simplify secure deployments for retail, hospitality, fuel, healthcare and higher education operations.

At launch the offering supports certified Ingenico Lane series terminals, with plans to expand to additional certified devices over time. Bluefin’s P2PE encrypts card data at the terminal and retains decryption in a controlled environment, which can narrow the scope of PCI compliance for merchants. Visa’s tokenization replaces card data with tokens so systems handling payments do not retain raw card numbers.

The integrated package includes centralized device lifecycle management and enterprise payment infrastructure. The companies said developer APIs and software development kits are available to help independent software vendors and in-house teams integrate the solution. Centralized management covers firmware updates, device provisioning and remote monitoring across stores or campuses.

Availability is through Visa Acceptance Solutions and Visa’s global sales and partner channels. Ruston Miles, founder and chief strategy officer at Bluefin, described the collaboration as an effort to deliver secure payment acceptance as an integrated platform rather than a set of separate components, saying it should simplify deployment and reduce operational complexity.
