Bloomberg automates market-on-close trading for JGBs
Bloomberg Electronic Markets now processes and matches market-on-close orders for Japanese government bonds at the Tokyo market close.
Bloomberg Electronic Markets has automated market-on-close (MOC) trading for Japanese government bonds, allowing MOC orders to be routed, aggregated and executed through its electronic trading infrastructure at the Tokyo close.
The system captures orders entered during the MOC window, aggregates opposite-side interest and matches trades around the official Tokyo closing price. Orders submitted for the close are allocated and executed at the published closing price without the manual handoffs that have typically been part of bond close auctions.
The automation is available on Bloomberg’s electronic markets offering in Japan and links with the trading workflows used by buy-side and sell-side firms. Market participants can submit MOC instructions through existing order management and execution systems and have those orders cleared for matching and confirmation at the close.
Operational controls enforce submission cutoffs and process allocation instructions. Once the closing price is established, the platform generates trade reports, confirmations, timestamps, execution reports and allocations in formats intended for downstream settlement and compliance processes.
Institutional investors, asset managers, pension funds and dealer desks commonly use MOC functionality to transact at end-of-day benchmark prices, for example when rebalancing portfolios or matching benchmark exposures to reduce intraday price risk.
Japanese government bonds are among the world’s largest sovereign debt markets and trade across a wide range of maturities with domestic and international participants. The automation reflects growing adoption of electronic trading and workflow automation in fixed income, where venues and firms have expanded tools to streamline execution and reporting in primary and secondary markets.
