Bitcoin Rebounds Above $60,000 as Ether Climbs

Bitcoin rose above $60,000 this week, closing more than 8% higher. Ether gained nearly 13%, its strongest close in more than a month.

Bitcoin rebounded above $60,000 this week, closing more than 8% higher, while Ether climbed nearly 13% to post its strongest closing level in over a month. Both gains followed earlier declines that left major cryptocurrencies below their 2025 peaks.

Bitcoin is down about 28% year-to-date and sits roughly 49% below its record closing high from October 2025. Ether is down about 40% year-to-date and is approximately 63% below its record close from August 2025.

The update covers Bitcoin, Ether and XRP. XRP was launched in 2012 and was one of the larger tokens when the series began. An index was built to compare the three on a comparable basis, using a logarithmic scale to show relative percentage changes rather than absolute price moves. The index charts performance since November 9, 2017, and shows that Bitcoin currently leads in cumulative moves among the three assets.

Regulatory approvals have changed how investors access crypto. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approved spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds on January 10, 2024, allowing issuers including Grayscale, iShares, Fidelity, ARK 21Shares, Bitwise and CoinShares to offer spot-Bitcoin products. Spot Ether ETFs launched on July 23, 2024, from issuers including Grayscale, Franklin, Bitwise, iShares and Fidelity.

Cryptocurrencies are digital assets that use cryptography to secure transactions, control the creation of new units and verify transfers. Financial products tied to Bitcoin and Ether have expanded ways for investors to gain exposure, while prices for these assets continue to show wide swings.

This week’s gains represent short-term recoveries in a market where year-to-date performance remains substantially lower than last year’s highs. Trading activity, product launches and regulatory developments continue to shape investor access to these tokens.
