Why big budgets won’t deliver winning bank strategies
At Payments Unleashed in London, ACI Worldwide’s Fred Slevin warned many banks craft strong strategies but lack plans to execute them into operational action.
Fred Slevin, global head of solution consulting at ACI Worldwide, spoke at the Payments Unleashed conference in London and said many banks develop strong strategic plans but do not plan the work needed to deliver them.
He pointed to a gap between strategy design and operational delivery, noting that plans often do not include the practical steps required to implement each initiative.
Slevin identified specific shortfalls in execution planning, including aligning technology, staff roles and business processes to support strategic goals.
He argued the problem is usually not lack of funding or ambition but a shortfall in discipline when moving from concept to delivery.
“The future belongs not to the banks with the biggest budgets or the grandest ambitions, but to those with a clear plan and the ability to make it happen,” Slevin said.
He recommended stronger governance, clear delivery plans and measurable milestones so strategic commitments translate into operational results.
