Balyasny hires ex-BlackRock senior credit executive
Daniel Chen, former co-head of BlackRock’s U.S. investment-grade platform, joined Balyasny Asset Management as a New York-based portfolio manager in 2026.
Daniel Chen joined Balyasny Asset Management as a portfolio manager in New York in 2026. He had served as co-head of BlackRock’s U.S. investment-grade platform after a 26-year career at BlackRock.
Chen started at BlackRock in 1999 after graduating from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed an MBA at NYU Stern while working at the firm and advanced through BlackRock’s fixed-income business, taking on senior roles within its corporate bond platform.
In 2023 he took a lead role overseeing BlackRock’s global corporate bond fund. His departure from BlackRock was recorded in January 2026 and his professional profile now lists the Balyasny position.
At Balyasny he will be based in New York as a portfolio manager on the firm’s multi-strategy investment team. The hire adds senior credit experience to the firm’s fixed-income capabilities, which are led by Steve Goldberg and Nilson Kocher.
Balyasny did not provide a comment on the appointment. The firm has expanded its fixed-income resources in recent years as multi-strategy managers pursue additional sources of return across credit and macro-oriented trades.
Chen’s background running corporate bond portfolios and managing a global corporate bond fund positions him to work on credit selection, portfolio construction and risk management within Balyasny’s multi-asset framework.
